A Message From The Mayor
December 22, 1999
As
this year comes to a close, we have much to be thankful for as a community. This year has been quite eventful for the Town of Homer and it's citizens. Just reflecting over the last 12 months, there have been several events that have truly been a blessing. A few of them include the Appreciation and Inaugural Banquet, Northwest Louisiana's Mayors' Summit, visits from our Governor, Lt. Governor, and U.S. Congressman, a first-ever "Taste of Homer", and an exciting Christmas Festival featuring an appearance by the world-famed Grambling Sate University Marching Band. Through these events, we're attempting to market all the good and positive that happens in our town.
In
terms of local government leadership, we have a good working council who truly look out for their constituents and their needs. Despite their unique personalities and interests, each has represented our community well in their decision making. With a dedicated and hardworking staff, citizens are assured to be treated with integrity and respect.
T
his year has also been one where we've seen more ribbon-cuttings and groundbreakings than in recent years combined. Area contractors have been extremely busy with the numerous renovations and new construction projects. More than fourteen streets have been totally rebuilt, and others are being planned. We're looking better and brighter.
Not only did 1999 bring about new leadership in city hall, but it brought about a new vision and a true sense of community among us all. We're beyond barriers that we
never crossed before and we're looking forward to the 21st Century.
The year 2000 is also special to us. In this year, we will celebrate our sesquicentennial - 150th birthday. That in itself is enough for us to pause and be thankful during this holiday season. However, next year will bring about even greater challenges as we continue to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Homer. Our main thrust will be in the areas of recreational facilities, industry recruitment, and increasing educational opportunities locally.
I ask that each of you make a New Year's Resolution to be better citizens, friendlier neighbors, think positively, and share a wealth of kindness to everyone. We will continue to move forward in expediting our mission of public service with your input and support. It's because of you that we serve and it's our commitment to be better servants in advancing the common good.
Happy Holidays and may God bless each and every one of you.
Mayor David J. Aubrey
