You may Have Only One Interview at a Company for A Job, So Make The Most Of It!!

Before the Interview...
Get some general information about the company. This shows that you are interested in the business and the job.

  • Find out what the company does or makes.
  • Find out the name of the person who will be interviewing you.
  • Find out the salary range of the job for which you are applying.
  • Make out a personal information fact sheet. You will need the information to help you fill out application forms quickly and accurately, neatly and completely.
  • Be sure your dress and grooming are appropriate for the interview so you will make a good impression.
  • Be at least 15 minutes early for the interview and go alone.
Points To Remember At The Interview
  • If the situation calls for shaking hands, do it firmly.
  • Stand up straight! Smile! Look pleasant! The interviewer will be much more interested in hiring you if you are positive.
  • Look at the employer and make good eye contact.
  • Sit down only when the interviewer offers you a seat, or sits down first.
  • Don't chew gum or smoke.
  • Speak clearly. Take time to think before answering questions.
  • Keep hands and feet still.
  • Be prepared to answer questions. Answer briefly, relating your answers to the job for which you are applying.
  • Don't take notes. It's distracting.
  • Don't interrupt the interviewer and listen carefully. Don't argue or complain.
  • Bring out how the employer can benefit by hiring you. Emphasize the skills that relate to the hob you are applying for.
  • Leave your personal troubles at home. The interviewer's main concern is how well you can do the job.
  • Remember that it's not only WHAT you say that counts in a job interview, but also HOW you say it.
  • If you have specific qualifications for a job, be sure the interviewer knows about them. No one knows what you can do unless you tell them.
  • If you don't have specific skills for a job, mention your transferable skills and good worker traits you have to show why you should be hired. Also mention how easily trainable you are.
  • Ask questions when you don't understand what the interviewer is talking about. You'll want to know as much about the job as you can, and asking questions is the best way to find out.

Remember To Check Back...

Regardless of the outcome of an interview, you should end the interview in a polite and businesslike manner. Offer to shake hands, say thank you for the time and assure the employer that you would make a worthy employee and that you are really interested in WORKING FOR THE COMPANY.

Follow up...

A handwritten thank-you note on a card or good quality stationery a day or two later allow you to thank the interviewer again. It also serves as a reminder of your interest in the company. There is a fine line between reminding an employer of your interest and being a pest. BE CAREFUL!
