Counseling services for children ages 4 - 18 are provided. Requests come from parents, school officials (in conjunction with parent's request), and state agencies. Major portions of funding for the program come from State Office of Mental Health. The program receives Medicaid and non-Medicaid funding. Salaries are paid through the CPSB. State funding goes to administrative overlay and salaries.
Visits are made in both the schools and home. Ten schools are included and visits are made once or twice per week. A minimal staff of 15 is employed.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and family counselors are employed. Conflict resolution, fitting into current structure, dealing with stress, parenting skills, changing needs, and managers deal with needs management of families and children.
Special education, pupil appraisal, Title I, Alternative School, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program, and adult education are involved. Students released upon completion of stated goals. Summer programs in Homer and Haynesville are provided.
COST: Medicaid, Office of Mental Health Contract, and private insurance cover cost for mental health services.

The Claiborne Parish School System provides full educational opportunities to all children with disabilities ages three through twenty-one within its jurisdiction. The following special education and supplemental services are offered: Autism, Mentally disabled, Behavior disordered, Multi-disabled, Deaf-Blind, Preschool-Ages 3-5, Emotionally disturbed, Orthopedically Disabled, Gifted, Other health impaired, Hearing impaired, Severe language disorder, Hospital/Homebound, Educationally disabled, Infant/Toddlers-Ages 0-2, Speech/Language Impaired, Learning Disabled, visually impaired, adapted physical education, occupational therapy, and sign language. Parents refer children ages 0-3 to the Child Search coordinator or the Supervisor of Special Education. Parents or teachers may refer school-age children for evaluation.
Child Search is a program that is designed to find children and youth in need of special education services. Trained professionals are available to help children who may have trouble talking, seeing, hearing, moving and/or thinking. All information is kept confidential. Services are also available for children who may be gifted and/or talented in the visual arts.
ChildNet is an early intervention program for infants and toddlers with disabilities. This program coordinated public and private resources to ensure that all eligible children, birth through age 2, and their families receive appropriate services. ChildNet offers the concerned parent or family member a number to call for information and referral services. In addition to case management, early intervention services may include: family training and counseling, special instruction, speech pathology and audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological.

Computer assisted Parent Center is available for students accompanied by their parents. The purpose of the center is to reinforce skills in reading and mathematics. The Parent Center is open during the summer, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 to 3:00. During the regular school session, two parent coordinators serve as a liaison between the home and school.
COST: All programs are free of charge.

Tech Prep helps students by guiding them into career clusters and career paths. The program helps students set realistic goals based on aptitudes and interests. Every student enrolled in public schools in Claiborne Parish (8th - 12th) participates. Programs enable teachers to better prepare students for life alter high school. Agreements with area colleges, universities and technical institutions enable students to receive advance placement.
COST: All programs are free of charge.

Vocational Education is a Vocational training program in high schools across the parish that seeks to educate students in areas of business, agriculture, home economics and industrial arts. The goal Is to prepare students for work and post-secondary education after graduation. The program is open to students in private schools, as long as space is available. Units count as elective credits toward high school graduation requirements. Programs are available to students in most parish high schools.
Hope Youth Ranch is a home for troubled teenage boys ages 8-17 with behavior and/or conduct disorders. Boys live at the ranch and receive on-site counseling by a trained and educated staff. An accredited school on the ranch provides education to the boys. School Is under the Webster parish School Board. During the summer, classes run until noon. During the rest of the year, classes run until three o'clock. A baseball and soccer field, gym, weight room, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool are available. Interested parents should contact the Ranch and send Information on their child. Acceptance depends on individual situation and available space. The capacity is 75 boys.
COST: Tuition and fees are charged. Some people receive exemption of fees. Insurance pays for some mental health services.
