THE CLAIBORNE PARISH POLICE JURY

Special Called Meeting

February 24, 2009

The Claiborne Parish Police Jury met in Special Session in the Office of the Police Jury in Homer, LA at 3:30 PM on Thursday, the twenty fourth day of February, 2009.

On being called to order by the President, the following jurors were present:

Scott Davidson, Lavelle Penix, Rev. Willie Young, Robert McDaniel, Mark Furlow, Jerry Adkins, and Joe Sturges.

Brian “Butch” Bays, Roy Mardis and Roy Lewis were absent.

The meeting was opened with a word of Prayer led by Rev. Willie Young, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jerry Adkins.

Upon motion by Jerry Adkins, duly seconded by Mark Furlow, the Jury unanimously adopted the agenda as presented.

The only item on the agenda was Resolution 2009-001 dealing with Claiborne Parish Fire Protection District No. 3 Proposition (Tax Renewal) on the May 2, 2009 ballot.

Upon motion of Roy Mark Furlow, duly seconded by Joe Sturges, the Jury unanimously approved Resolution 2009-001.

RESOLUTION 2009-001

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE POLICE JURY TO RENEW, LEVY AND COLLECT A 10.00 MILL PROPETY TAX FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF CLAIBORNE PARISH FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT No. 3

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Claiborne Parish Police Jury AUTHORIZES the request of the Claiborne Parish Fire Protection District No. 3 for the submission of a Proposition (Tax Renewal) on May 2, 2009 to the electors of said fire protection district.

SUMMARY:  Renewal of a 10.00 mill property tax for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and/or operating fire protection facilities and equipment for the district, including paying for the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes.

Upon a motion by  Mark Furlow  and duly seconded by  Joe Sturges  this motion was carried and officially adopted by the Claiborne Parish Police Jury meeting in special called meeting convened on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
