MINUTES OF POLICE JURY MEETING
HELD
HOMER,
The Claiborne Parish Police Jury met in
special session at the office of the Police Jury in Homer,
Gene Coleman, Bobby Liles, Roy Mardis,
Absent: Roy Lewis
The purpose of the special meeting was to appoint the Director of the Office Emergency Preparedness.
Bobby Liles, Chairman of Personnel
Committee, reported the findings of that committee and following a period of
discussion the motion was made by Roy Mardis duly seconded by Gene Coleman and
carried that the matter be tabled and the Police Jury will meet on
A written request has been received from Marion H. White asking the Police Jury to close the Bethel Spur Road and upon motion by Roy Mardis duly seconded by Joe Sturges and carried the request was denied. The Jury asked Assistant District Attorney Danny Newell to contact Mr. White instructing him of the proper procedure for closing a parish road.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Middle Fork Water System in rural Claiborne Parish, have a need to install new chlorination equipment and make piping modifications to correct ongoing bacteriological problems with the Gas Plant Pump Station, and have asked the Claiborne Parish Police Jury for assistance, and
WHEREAS, the Middle Fork Water System has the capacity to provide safe drinking water for these citizens but lacks the resources necessary to construct these needed corrections, and
WHEREAS, the Engineers for the system have determined that a backup chlorinator can be acquired with funds available from the Governor’s Office of Rural Development, and
WHEREAS, the Parish has requested Cothren, Graff, Maddox Engineering, Inc. to prepare an application for assistance from the Governor’s Office of Rural Development for the funds needed, so:
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Claiborne Parish Police Jury is in full accord and support of making a request for $20,000 from the Governor’s Office of Rural Development in order to proceed with this badly needed project.

Upon motion by Roy Mardis duly seconded by Joe Sturges and carried a written request approved previously by the District Attorney Walter May and Judge Jenifer Clason for a prayer vigil to be held on the courthouse lawn on March 20th was approved.
Upon motion by Roy Mardis duly seconded by Willie Young, Sr. and carried a written request approved previously by District Attorney Walter May and Judge Jenifer Clason for the National Day of Prayer to be held on the courthouse lawn on May first was approved.
Upon motion by Roy Mardis duly seconded by Jack Price the meeting was adjourned.
