The Claiborne Parish Police Jury oversees a wide variety of parish services and functions. Services Include: highway (roads and bridges) maintenance and construction, drainage, sewerage, garbage disposal, parks and recreation facilities, water works, and parish health unit.
Although the Police Jury has no direct control over the operation of the following constitutional offices, the Jury is required by law to provide significant funding and is responsible for housing and maintaining the Tax Assessor, Clerk of Court, Registrar of Voters, District Attorney and the Sheriff's Department.
Other support functions include: promotion of economic development (for example The Claiborne Economic Development Board), Tourism programs, regulation of various business concerns, and oversite of the administration of federal and state sponsored community assistance programs.

Since inception, Louisiana's governmental structure was devised to spread parish governmental control amongst several appointed and/or elected officials. Elected officials include the jury members, tax assessor, coroner, clerk of court, district attorney and sheriff. Appointed officials include the registrar of voters and various parish, state and federal program administrators.
Police Jury Appoints Director Of Emergency Preparedness Office
Edmun Frankie was appointed director of the Claiborne Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness by the Police Jury at a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, March 19. Jurors voted 6 to 2 for Frankie, who will replace David Musgrove. Jack Price was absent. Other names placed in nomination were Paige Cottrell and Glenda Greer. J.R.
